Abstract
Tavşanlı is a district, 48 km from the city of Kütahya. It is at the west of Turkey, in the Aegean Region and at the border of the Marmara Region. Tavşanlı Municipal Museum is at the Town Hall Square in Grand Mosque hometown, registered as a 2-storey civil architecture and gained the museum status officially on 22.02.1989.
Having a very rich history in handicraft, handicrafts of villages in our country varies with the needs and tastes of the local people. Keeping alive the handicrafts having a character based on tradition, will be possible with the identification and protection of regional characteristics. One of the handicrafts branches that are not investigated at the desired level is lace. Lace is an art branch that is not currently takes its desired place in art history and folklore disciplines.
This research covers samples of needle lace, located in the Municipal Museum Tavşanlı and having a special place in knitting art. Such a study is required, since written resources about Tavşanlı needle lace are insufficient and handiworks in the museum are not introduced until today.
