Abstract

This study investigates the apathy of Banking and Finance students in Nigeria universities to Banking courses compared to the finance courses. The study uses correlation to analyze the data got. The findings reveal that the students’ apathy is mainly caused by the fear they have about the takeover of banking jobs by non banking and finance graduates and the use of Information Technology (IT) in the banks. The IT has resulted in the great reduction of staff in the banks. The study recommend that effort should be made by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN )to liaise with the banks and the regulatory and supervisory authorities to regulate the qualifications acceptable for banking jobs.
