Abstract

The process of Learning Outcomes Assessment (LOA) has played a role of a catalyst in bringing profound reforms and raising the quality of general education curriculum. This paper presents the impact of LOA in the quality of curriculum and ultimately in teaching and learning at the university college, Abu Dhabi University. This rigorous process guided by the National Qualification Framework (NQF) did not only enable us to re frame the learning outcomes with more cognizant efforts but also empowered us to align them with the course content and pedagogy. We were able to identify the gaps between the college learning outcomes and course learning outcomes; we went back and re designed college learning outcomes reflected by NQF and re aligned them with the courses. Each course curriculum was then reviewed by curriculum committee to ensure the alignment. To close the loop the review and recommendation brought some significant changes in the learning outcomes, course content, and pedagogy and course assessment. Key Terms: Curriculum Development, Teaching and Learning, Pedagogy, Assessment, General Education and Higher Education.
