Process of Visual and Conceptual Development in Basic Graphic Design Education and a Proposal to Developing Creative Perception: 'Objects And Imagery’ Project

Abstract


When we look at the historical process of visual design, communication begins with phonetic signs and body language then evolves to a proper language which is established with indicators, symbols, images and typefaces. One of the most important developmental point of Humanity is to found of pictograms and Latin Alphabet since reading and learning has become widespread. It leds to developing of graphic images, graphics products and printing technologies as well. As a result of all these graphic design accepted as a profession and an academic field today.

Graphic design education can be defined shortly as building visual culture as subjective manner and concerns very detailed education process. This process can be explained as:

- Creation of a semiotic language and imagery,

- Color and meaning,

- Conceptualism,

- Visual perception,

- Typography,

- Page design and layout creation,

- Printing and reproducing.

It is possible to teach all these titles with detailed explanations but it is very hard to offer a project to apply for each. There is  only two semester to learn and study for Basic Design Education course generally so there is big timing matter.  As a result there must be wide spread projects to give to students. As an expanding offer; ‘Objects And Imagery’ Project described as this study’s central subject.

Temel Grafik Eğitimi Surecinde Gorsel ve Kavramsal Egitimin Asamalari ve Yaratici Algiyi Gelistirmeye Yonelik Bir Oneri: ‘Obje ve Imge’ Projesi

Gorsel tasarimin tarihsel surecine bakildiginda bedensel ve fonetik isaretlerle baslayan anlasma yolunun daha sonra gostergelerle, sembollerle, imgelerle ve yazi bicimleriyle kurulmus bir iletisim diline donustugunu gozlemleriz.

Insanligin en onemli gelisim noktalarindan biri olan Piktogramin ve latin alfabesinin bulunusundan bu yana ogrenme ve okumanin yayginlasmasi beraberinde grafik imgelerin ve grafik urunlerin ortaya cikisini ayni zamanda basim teknolojilerinin gelisimine de yol acmistir. Tum bunlarin sonucu olarak ise gunumuzde grafik tasarim, bir meslek dali ve akademik egitim alani olarak kabul edilmistir.

Grafik Tasarim egitimi, kisaca iletisim ve gorsel kulturu oznel anlamda insa etmek olarak tanimlanabilir ve oldukca detayli bir egitim surecini icermektedir.

Bu surec oncelikle temel sanat egitiminde alinan gestalt, renk ve gorsel algi temelleriyle guclendirilmeli daha sonra ise :

- Gostergesel dil-imge yaratimi,

- Renk ve anlami,

- Kavramsallik, cagrisim kurma ve grafik anlamlar,

- Gorsel algi,

- Yazi ve tipografi,

- Sayfa tasarimi ve layout olusturma ve son olarak

- Basim ve cogaltma islemlerinin ogrenilmesi ile tamamlanmalidir.

Bu cok yonlu ve ayrintili egitim surecinde ogrencilere yukarida siralanan konu basliklari aciklanabilir fakat tum alanlar icin proje onermesinde bulunmak zamanlama acisindan mumkun degildir. Grafik tasarim egitimi veren kurumlarda temel grafik egitimi genellikle birinci veya ucuncu donemde (yariyilda) baslayan ve yalnizca iki donem devam eden bir ders oldugundan yaratici ve pek cok konu basligini icerisinde barindiran genis kapsamli projelerle temel grafik unsurlarin gorsellige donusmesi ve egitimin tamamlanmasi mumkundur. Genisletilmis bir oneri olarak Obje ve Imge projesi bu calismanin konusu olarak irdelenmistir.
