Abstract
The city has a very long history. So far, the city has been defined in many different ways but when we look at all these definitions, we can speak of a common definition. According to Turkish urbanologist Rana Aslanoğlu;the city is a place (they have a specific size, heterogeneity and integration levels) where control functions and non-agricultural production are collected. If we ignore the link between urbanization and culture which vary in time and space, we can not understand the history and urban identity.
These elements should be consider and urban should be considered source of identitiy of society. Some city managers understand the role of culture in the formation process of the city, and have used this situation in a positive direction but some were not understand. They think that this situation prevent development of the city. There is an interaction between the community and the city. Society, shape the city in which they lived and also cities shape society. For this reason,we shouldn't forget that common values are shared between people over time, the date of the formation of a city and the city's soul is occurs over time and requires a long process. As a result of this some symbols are formed and evident in the city, Today we look at the city we live in, it is possible to see the opposite of this situation( about design, architecture, decorations etc.). This article will examine visual elements of Turkey's capital Ankara. Some architectural structures does not reflect the city's history and culture (for example, the clock tower, city gates etc.) so they does not reflect the spirit of the city in Ankara in recent years.
