Abstract
The town of Tlemcen (north-western Algeria) presents significant floral diversity. It a natural treasure that deserves to be preserved and promoted. It is also famous for its national forest, considered to be the city's interface. In this work, we propose to promote a category of this flora and on a small scale. For this, the work was undertaken in two stages. The first consisted of inventorying and assessing the health status of rare, endemic and exotic trees of significant interest. In the second stage, a socio-economic survey was also carried out in order to integrate the local population into the project to restock and rejuvenate the national forest of Tlemcen by promoting remarkable species.
The results of the floristic inventory allowed us to identify 34 taxa, 10 of which were chosen for valorization. Concerning the socio-economic survey, aspirations under various aspects (aesthetic, economic, environmental and social) were evaluated and ranked.
And in order to conserve and improve our forest heritage, we have suggested an action plan per plot thereby ensuring the sustainability of the main objectives of the national forest, namely protection and ornament, with the contribution of other objectives aimed at improving forest yield (production) on a small scale. The choice of forest species in this case must be subject to criteria that take into account the conservation and management of valuable species that have survived and thrived despite environmental challenges such as climate change, disease and human activities in conjunction with the real needs of the urban and peri-urban population.
Key words: Adaptation - integrated sustainable development - remarkable tree – restocking - valorization.
