Abstract

In this research, the properties of zinc oxide nanofilm deposited on a glass surface were studied. The effect of zinc oxide on the properties of glass was studied. XRD showes ZnO film was crystallized in the wurtzite phase (polycrystalline structure) and presents a preferential orientation along the  c-axis , SEM image show the uniform surface with some void spaces. Instead of spherical shapes elongated rod-like architecture with rough surface is noticed. The Average grain diameter was about (119nm), roughness average (0.942) and R.M.S (1.14nm) , of FTIR consist a several stretch modes this modes come from several source, where the band (410.84cm-1) corresponded to the Zn-O Stretching Vibration for a tetrahedral surrounding of the Zinc atoms, UV-VIS showes increasing thickness of ZnO film leads to  grain size of ZnO increasing and this will lead to decreasing in effect of quantum confinement (decreasing in energy gap) ,the Photoluminescence spectra of the ZnO films exhibited four peaks: UV emission peak around 381 nm, green luminescence at 425 nm and 483 nm , green- yellow band at 520 nm,. The first peak due to UV emissions is attributed to band-to-band transitions, excitonic emissions, and donor-acceptor pair transitions. The green and green-yellow bans are due to the deep level emissions in green region, which is attributed to oxygen vacancies, zinc interstitials or zinc vacancies , Raman Spectra  showes ZnO structure are Wurtize (C6v (P63mc)) space symmetry, which consist from two phonon mode (transverse optics (TO) and longitudinal optics mode (LO) ) that are expected all being Raman and infrared active. The Hall Effect measurement of ZnO thin film (100nm thickness) deposition on glass show that ZnO is n-type semiconductor (RH have negative value) . In summary, all the above tests show that depositing nano zinc oxide on the glass surface improves the optical properties of the glass, which helps in obtaining better results in many applications that depend on the interaction of light or electromagnetic rays with the glass surface.
