Abstract

The escalating global burden of mental health disorders underscores the critical need for sustainable mental healthcare management strategies that are effective, scalable, and financially viable. This literature review aims to synthesize qualitative research on the development and implementation of sustainable mental healthcare management practices, drawing on a wide range of academic databases and sources. Through a meticulous selection process, studies were evaluated based on their relevance to sustainability in mental healthcare, innovative management models, and the impact of these practices on patient outcomes and healthcare systems. The review identifies key themes, including the evolution of mental healthcare practices, the challenges and barriers to implementing sustainable management strategies, and the opportunities that current innovations and policy reforms present. By integrating findings from diverse contexts and healthcare systems, this review highlights best practices and successful case studies of sustainable mental healthcare management. The synthesis of the research literature not only sheds light on the complexities of delivering mental health services in various socio-economic environments but also outlines the critical factors that contribute to the sustainability of these services. Implications for practice include the integration of mental health services into primary healthcare, leveraging technology, and engaging communities in mental healthcare provision. Future research directions emphasize the need for longitudinal studies to assess the long-term sustainability of these models and their adaptability to changing healthcare landscapes. This review contributes to the ongoing dialogue on mental healthcare reform, offering insights into the pathways for achieving sustainable mental healthcare management globally.
