Abstract
This research was conducted in order to determine the strategies, methods and techniques used in the Special Teaching Methods course. It is aimed to compare the teaching strategy, methods and techniques that the preschool teacher candidates and instructors who prefer to use in the classroom activities. Qualitative research methodologies used for this study. The researcher observed the strategies, methods and techniques that the prospective teachers preferred to use in the course of their activities in the Special Teaching Methods course and the reports detailing the activities were also analysed. In addition, interviews were held with the aim of determining which strategies, methods and techniques used by the instructors who teaching Special Teaching Methods 1 and 2 course. This study has been carried out in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 2016 – 2017 academic year. Sample group 87 preschool teacher candidates and 6 instructors participated to this study. According to results of the study, it has been indicated that the university instructors are using mostly classical teaching strategy, methods and techniques. However, preschool teacher candidates prefer to use contemporary teaching strategies, methods and techniques.Keywords: Special Teaching Method Course; Teaching Methods; Teaching Strategies; Teaching Techniques
