An Evaluation of the News about the Disabled Published in the Written Media

Abstract


The rights of the "disabled" still appear very frequently on the media today, and the media is often criticized for their sensitivity to this issue. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of the news on the disability in the newspapers published in Northern Cyprus, to determine the trends and frequencies of the news published in the newspaper and to provide data based on written documents for awareness. This research project uses a descriptive survey model. In this study, the acquisition and analysis of data were done through content analysis from qualitative research methods. The study was conducted on 3 major newspapers with the highest impact factor in North Cyprus. The selection of the newspapers has been limited to the news published between 2014 and 2017. The obtained data are interpreted on the basis of percentage and frequency, and tables and graphs are used to show the data. In this context, the news on the disability were analyzed and discussed in the context of disability and examined in such a way as to cover the distribution by newspaper, publication year distribution, news distribution, news content distribution, and to include the discussion and conclusions.
