Abstract
Background: Over the past two decades, evidence-based practice has proven to help standardize and improve the quality of health care. Furthermore, it has become a required professional competency for nursing students to ensure they provide optimal care.
Objectives: To perform the reliability and validity of the Student Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (S-EBPQ), which was developed by Upton et al. (2016), among Turkish nursing students.
Design: Questionnaire survey.
Settings: A university located in Turkey.
Participants: Two hundred ninety undergraduate nursing students.
Methods: The S-EBPQ comprises 21 items in four subscales, with each item rated on a 7-point Likert-type scale. The opinions of twelve experts were consulted to confirm the questionnaire’s content validity, and factor analyses were performed to confirm the construct validity. Data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 20.0 and AMOS 8 for Windows.
Results: The content validity index was 0.96. The Kaiser-Meier-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was .931, and Bartlett's sphericity test was significant (𝜒2 = 273.479, df = 210, p = 0.000). The exploratory factor analysis revealed a four-factor structure explaining 58.423% of the total variance in the data. The ratio of chi-square to degrees of freedom was 1.457, while the CFI, RMSEA, PCLOSE, normed fit index, Tucker-Lewis index, GFI, and AGFI were 0.968, 0.040, 0.952, 0.906, 0.963, 0.923, and 0.902, respectively.
Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Student Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire can be used for assessing evidence-based practice skills in Turkish nursing students.
