Abstract
The impressive changes in science and technology today led to a rapid increase in the amount of information and caused some site-specific information to lose their up-to-datedness in a fairly short time. In order to maintaining life satisfaction it is essential to keep pace with this astounding change. Lifelong education is a solution to keep pace with this change by providing necessary information and skills. Despite the importance of lifelong education, adults encounter a variety of deterrents to participation. This study was performed to determine the relationship between demographics and deterrents to participation in lifelong education. The sample comprised 119 adults who resided in Ankara City, Turkey. Data were collected through a demographic information form and Deterrents to Participation Scale-General (DPS-G). The findings indicated that almost all of the adults (95.8%) who have been included in the scope of the research needs training in any kind of subjects. The results of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between deterrent participation in lifelong education and age, income, education, health status, needs training while there is no relationship among gender.
