Abstract
It is a known fact that one of the main factors that are at the foundation of our health condition is the food intake adapted to one's age. The study we have conducted looks at the food intake of young people – which is being analyzed both in terms of quantity and quality. The study comprised 164 subjects from the pre-university (79) and university (85) environment, aged between 17 and 27 years old. In the present paper we will present a few of the results we obtained through applying a survey we created ourselves on the topic of nutrition: it included 15 questions regarding the way the food intake of our subjects was composed. The analysis of the composition of the food intake has revealed some worrisome aspects that concern the possibilities of including the main nutritional categories in the diet of young people: proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables – which all appear at percentages much below the values considered to be normal. A significant portion in the make-up of food intake has been found to belong to cereals and derivatives, as well as sweets. The reversal of proportions in the food intake for proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables with those for cereals and sweets is a serious cause for concern regarding the mid- and long-term health of the test population. This seems even more relevant given that our subjects will be future opinion leaders (as teachers of physical education and kinesiotherapists) and future parents. Following our analysis, we have found a necessity to compile a guide of good practices in the field of nutrition aimed at the young population, which we are planning to create ourselves in the future.
