Peru and its new challenge in higher education: towards a research university

Abstract


The paradigm of the research universities linked to the emergence of university rankings has unified and universalized higher education quality criteria.  This situation has generated several answers in world society, which has started to assess the quality of higher education systems through the mentioned rankings.

The quality of a country higher education is one of the fundamental pillars for its development and many countries in the world are applying measures at this regard. In the case of Peru the answer has not been delayed. In 2014, the regulation 30220 on the quality of higher education that places special emphasis in the promotion and dissemination of the research generated by the universities was approved.

This communication analyzes the regulation 30220 in Peru taking into consideration the possibilities regarding the positioning of its universities in the rankings at international level and establishes the basis of a model that enables the link between research and teaching and its connection with society, as it happens in the universities that occupy the top positions in global rankings – research universities.
