Abstract

Bioclimatic design is a critical strategy for achieving energy-efficient and sustainable buildings in hot and dry climates. This study focuses on developing comprehensive bioclimatic building design guidelines tailored for Cyprus, a Mediterranean island with a rich architectural heritage and distinct climatic challenges. By analyzing traditional and modern architectural practices, the research identifies key passive design strategies, including building orientation, natural ventilation, shading, thermal insulation, and the use of locally sourced materials. The proposed guidelines aim to bridge traditional knowledge with contemporary sustainable practices to mitigate energy consumption and enhance indoor thermal comfort. Socio-economic and policy implications are also discussed to highlight the importance of integrated approaches for effective implementation. These findings provide a valuable framework for architects, policymakers, and stakeholders, fostering sustainable development in the region.
