Abstract

The higher education offered by Turkish Universities cultivates well-qualified and experienced people, catering for the need of skilful employees. With its great role in honing students’ economic, interpersonal, cultural, scientific, and social erudition, this education is provided by the academic institutions aiming to raise the scientific and vocational quality. In this regard, the faculties of communication at Turkish Universities also serve to meet the sector-based needs and to provide well-educated academic staff. However, the excessive growth in the number of students enrolling in universities and the number of newly opened faculties of communication has forced the students to opt for these faculties just because they had no better options, which, in turn, has led to a growth in the need of academic staff. As a result, the notion of quality has become a focal point on the side of both students and academic staff. The present study elicited questionnaires from a total of 400 university students. The findings referred to the reasons as to why the students chose this department along with their expectations, willingness to convert to other departments and the reasons, and the level of satisfaction with this department. The results were evaluated in light of the issues abovementioned.
