Last modified: 2024-03-11
Abstract
This review examines the burgeoning role of online learning in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the healthcare industry. With the global push towards achieving SDGs by 2030, innovative educational approaches have become crucial. Online learning emerges as a pivotal strategy in this endeavor, offering scalable, flexible, and accessible education solutions to healthcare professionals worldwide. By analyzing various studies, programs, and initiatives, this review highlights how online learning platforms are instrumental in promoting quality education (SDG 4), ensuring good health and well-being (SDG 3), and fostering gender equality (SDG 5) through healthcare education. Special attention is given to the accessibility of online learning in low-resource settings, contributing to reduced inequalities (SDG 10). Despite the potential, challenges such as the digital divide, quality assurance, and the need for practical skill development are addressed. The review concludes with recommendations for leveraging online learning to its full potential in supporting the healthcare industry's contribution to the SDGs, suggesting a roadmap for policymakers, educators, and healthcare providers. Through this synthesis, we underscore the transformative potential of online learning in not only advancing healthcare education but also in contributing significantly towards the global achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
