Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Nervus Vagus (VN) manipulation on psychosomatic symptoms and heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with fibromyalgia (FM).
Method: The study included 30 individuals with FM who met the inclusion criteria. Nervus Vagus manipulation was applied to the participants for 4 weeks, 3 times a week for a total of 12 sessions. Before and after the treatment, heart rate variability (HRV) was measured for 5 minutes to evaluate the autonomic nervous system of the participants, pain symptoms related to FM were evaluated with the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), sleep quality was evaluated with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire, and fatigue was evaluated with the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS).
Results: All of the participants successfully completed the treatment. The mean age of the participants was 26.83±7.37 years. Statistically significant differences were found in HRV data p=0.006, RMSSD data p=0.047, SDNN data p=0.035, FIQ data p=0.00, Pittsburgh results p=0.00 and Fatigue Severity Scale p=0.00.
Conclusion: Nervus Vagus manipulation has been shown to successfully improve symptoms such as heart rate variability, pain, sleep and fatigue in patients with fibromyalgia.
