Abstract

This research was carried out for the purpose of examining perceptions of reward and punishment in classroom setting among teacher candidates who attend biology education training. As is known, teachers often adopt reward and punishment practices while performing classroom instruction activities. Students, on the other hand, are given shape or develop within the framework of rewards and punishment applied on either on themselves or on their peers. Students bear positive or negative traces and effects of rewards and punishment that are practiced by teachers. Therefore, especially teacher candidates’ perspective will result in revealing important information about what type of practices the future generations will experience in their education. For this reason, such a study is deemed appropriate. To collect data in the research, focus group interview technique was employed, and group interview was carried out with a total of 10 people.  A total of 19 questions were posed to interviewers in application. Data acquired within the scope of research will be analyzed using content analysis method. Main themes will be determined based on data obtained from content analysis, and students’ answers will be divided into codes and collected under designated themes.
