In our country, Romania, the current issue in higher education is the gap between academia and the business. The aim of this paper is to highlight the need to link the theoretical requirements of schools and what students need in applying this knowledge into practice. To reach this correlation is important that teachers have links with the municipality and the business environment. We will present the conclusions from a program of work with the municipality to conduct real estate records with the students and the students conclusions after performing a practice in firms.

In our view in terms of the subjects taught, sustainable urban planning is one of the issues that will be useful in the future in the present conditions of climate change. This cannot be achieved only by putting to the same table the concerned parties. The students need to be educated and prepared for a more sustainable thinking using intelligent tools such as dedicated GIS to different problems.
